Welcome to this week’s episode of RhythmComics Crowdfunding Overview! This week we have five high-quality projects from well-known creators, the fifth volume of a zine on speculative biology, and a book that offers insight into the early days of the healthy food industry – uh, apparently a cult is behind this? Legends new and old come to life in Almost Real’s mythological fifth volume, fueled by the speculative imagination of our contributors.

Welcome to the world of speculative biology! It’s damn fun. If you’ve ever thought, “Hey, how’s it going star trek inventing all these alien designs? (Answer: For a long time, all aliens in the Star Trek universe were created from the disparate body parts and organs of known terrestrial species.) Then speculative biology is for you!

The zine explores the theme of mythology for its fifth volume. Featuring 12 new stories from the zine’s 15 contributors (including Superficial creator Kory Bing), contributors can expect to read “unique spins on familiar legends,” in which they’ll hunt cryptids, learn the mythos of alien worlds, as well as be introduced “to whole new myths to sink your speculative teeth in.”

Once upon a time… Kisha, the daughter of the African demon king Kishi, devours her demon brethren to win her father’s love. Are you already sold? (Me too.) Anyway… Kishi is an asshole, and apparently nothing his daughter does is enough to win his approval. However, centuries later, a sixteen-year-old Louisiana native, Kisha Malveaux, awakens Demon Kisha and becomes possessed. But will the two need each other to survive?

Also, I’m a fan of colorful pop art, and demon eater Kisha remains.

the Scrapbook consists of previously unpublished photographs, newspaper clippings, letters, manifestos, album covers and leaflets assembled by a family historian Isis Aquarius from 1972 to 1977. It documents the band’s rise and fall, its wild musical and social experimentation, and its exodus to Hawaii and San Francisco as the band began to unravel. According to the project description, the pages “provide an eye-opening, first-hand view of the largely misunderstood phenomenon of new religious movements and cults of the 1960s and 1970s.”
