Gordon of Bowie State among CIAA Lowe’s Senior CLASS Award 2021-22 nominees


BOWIE, Maryland – Shanya gordon (Elkridge, MD) and Tevin singleton (District Heights, MD) of Bowie State University are among 24 candidates for the 2021-22 Lowe’s Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association (CIAA) Senior CLASS Award. The nominees were announced in December and fan voting is now open.

Fans are encouraged to visit www.lowesciaasca.com to vote for their favorites among the 24 nominees by February 10, 2022. At the end of the voting period, votes from fans will be combined with those from CIAA coaches and the media to determine the winners.

Gordon is a four-year-old starter on the Bulldogs softball team. She has a cumulative grade point average (GPA) of 3.5 and is expected to graduate from graphic design in May.

Singleton was a defensive back on a historic Bulldogs football team this year. He boasted a cumulative GPA of 3.66 and is currently pursuing a Masters in Organizational Communications. The three-time CIAA champion earned a bachelor’s degree in corporate marketing from Bowie State last year.

The Lowe’s CIAA Senior CLASS Award®, which focuses on male and female CIAA student-athletes, is a division of the National Senior CLASS Award program that recognizes student-athletes in 10 NCAA Division I sports. Last month, 24 male and female CIAA student-athletes who excel on and off the field were shortlisted as candidates for the award.

Acronym for Celebrating Loyalty and Achievement for Staying in School®, the Lowe’s CIAA Senior CLASS Award focuses on all student-athletes and encourages players to use their platform in athletics to make a positive impact as leaders in their communities. . To be eligible for the award, a student-athlete must be classified as senior and have notable achievement in four areas of excellence: community, class, character, and competition.

Candidates for the Lowe’s CIAA Senior CLASS Award were nominated by their respective universities. Of the 24 student-athletes, all have excellent academic results at their universities and donate their time to charities and causes while maintaining a reputation for positive character on campus and in the community.

Following the voting period, the male and female winner will be announced at the CIAA tournament in Baltimore, Maryland and presented with the prestigious Senior CLASS Award trophy during championship matches on Saturday, February 26.
