Grand Island Public Schools are offering three information workshops this month for those interested in applying to the district school board.

Two of the workshops will take place on Thursday, January 20. One starts at noon at the Convention and Visitors Bureau, 201 W. Third St. The other starts at 6:30 pm at Stolley Park Elementary, 1700 W. Stolley Park Road, Gate 15.

The third workshop begins at 2 p.m. on Sunday January 23 at Engleman Elementary School, 1812 Mansfield Road. Use the main doors.

The free workshops are designed to provide an overview of the roles, various committees and details involved for board members. Clients interested in a potential candidate for election or re-election are encouraged to attend.

There are five seats to be filled this year on the Board of Education – one seat in Ward B, two seats in Ward A and two seats in Ward C. It is important to note that the redistribution took place in December. 2021. The latest boundaries for the three districts of the school board can be found on the GIPS website at www.gips.org/about-gips/board-of-education/wards.html. The information can also be found on the Hall County Election Commissioner website.

GIPS has five members of the Board of Education whose terms ended Wednesday of this week. They are Terry Brown and Dan Brosz in Ward A, Bonnie Hinkle in Ward B and Carlos Barcenas and Erika Wolfe in Ward C.
